Pilot Self Debrief

LabsPro Plus

The briefing asked whether you should go. The debrief asks how it actually went — while the flight is still in your head. It does not change your WX Score. PlaneWX Labs — included with Pro Plus.

When it shows up

Pro Plus only (PlaneWX Labs). Same arrival gate as Review Briefing — after you land, or after the planned arrival if FlightAware never attached a track. Look for:

  • A Self-Debrief chip on the past-trip card, the Needs debrief filter, or Settings → My Debriefs
  • Self-Debrief in the trip menu, or Trip → Self-Debrief on the briefing
  • Debrief This Flight on the existing post-flight review email — not a second email. It hides once a debrief exists, or if you turn the reminder off

Start is enough. The first save creates the row and the nudge can stop. There is no debrief SMS.

What you fill in

Top to bottom: flight purpose, navigation methods, Rate this flight, mental sharpness, PAVE look-back, discipline, weather, then the phases. There is no Overall phase card — Rate this flight covers that.

Navigation methods

How you actually navigated — GPS, VOR, ILS, RNAV, pilotage, dead reckoning, ATC vectors. Pick all that applied.

Rate this flight

Stars are how did you do — not how fun it was. Challenge, confidence, comfort, and whether you would fly it the same way sit on the same card.

Mental sharpness

1–5. Slip tags and contributing factors only appear at 3 or below. Honest beats polite.

PAVE look-back

How the FAA PAVE picture compared to what you felt in the airplane — fatigue, pressure, get-there-itis. If you skipped PAVE before departure, you can say why. See PAVE Risk Assessment.

Discipline rows include checklist, sterile cockpit, Vr / Vx / Vy, centerline, Vref, and fuel. Weather asks whether ceiling, wind, turbulence, icing, and convective matched the brief. Phase notes can be marked Follow up. Every row can take a short note — including the ones you did.

Saves as you go. Saved stays on the card after a successful write. A failed write shows Not saved.

Squawks, lessons, and currency

  • Open squawks on that tail show the next time you pick the aircraft on a new trip
  • Lessons stay on the debrief. They are not a public feed
  • Night landings and instrument approaches you log here feed currency on Insights — FAR 61.57 windows from what you actually reported, not from ADS-B

What stays private

Private notes never leave your account. Mentors, Trip Watchers, public profile, groups, and Insights never see them. The rest of the debrief is still yours unless you grant a mentor access.

Mentors and CFIs

One flag: Self-debrief access on that person in My Crew. Off by default. When it is on, they see the full debrief except private notes, and they can leave one note for you. They cannot edit your answers.

Family watchers and public sharing never get this. A standing mentor still needs the flag — matching for a go/no-go call is not the same grant.

Reminders

Profile notification settings include Self-Debrief Reminders. On by default, and offered in onboarding next to the review-email toggle. Turning it off hides the button on the review email. The in-app menu stays.
