Our Mission
PlaneWX increases general aviation safety by equipping pilots with continuously monitored weather intelligence, structured self-assessment, and peer mentoring — giving pilots the confidence to go, or the courage to stay.
Three Pillars of Safer Flying
Every feature in PlaneWX supports one of three safety pillars. Together, they give you the tools to make sound, confident decisions.
Weather Intelligence
Continuously monitored briefings from federal weather sources (NOAA, NWS, FAA), personalized to your aircraft and minimums. Our Synoptic Intelligence™ synthesizes every available source to provide actionable guidance starting up to 14 days out — long before TAFs exist.
PAVE Self-Assessment
Weather is only one part of flight safety. The FAA's PAVE framework helps you honestly evaluate Pilot readiness, Aircraft condition, enVironment, and External pressures. PlaneWX makes it structured, timed to your departure, and integrated into your briefing.
Peer Mentoring
No pilot should face a critical go/no-go call alone. PlaneWX matches you with experienced volunteer mentors who see your exact briefing — the same WX Score, weather analysis, and personal minimums you see. The conversation starts with real data, not verbal descriptions over the phone.
Community & Sharing
PlaneWX has a few different ways to share your flying with other people — some private and targeted, some public. All of them are optional.
Social Features Handbook
New to PlaneWX community? Start here — Friends feed, Groups, Discover, privacy controls, Share to Group, and how My Crew differs from following.
Public Profile & Following Pilots
An optional public page at your own URL, plus one-way following of other pilots. Off by default, exact fields shown, and how to disambiguate it from the unrelated "Follow Me" digest setting.
Community Groups
Airport, event, aircraft-type, and club groups — create an invite-only community, get people in, share trips, and optionally scope mentor requests to your group.
Badges & Leaderboards
Milestone badges earned automatically, and community leaderboards for hours flown, miles, PAVE completions, mentoring, and most followed.
Why PlaneWX Exists
Inside 24 hours, flight planning is relatively straightforward.
TAFs are reasonably accurate.
METARs are current.
ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot do a fine job.
But what about 3 days out? 5 days? A week?
That's where pilots are left guessing. You've got a trip planned for Saturday. It's Tuesday. You check the GFS models, squint at prog charts, and hope for the best. Meanwhile:
- Your family is asking "Are we still going?"
- You've booked the hotel
- The rental car is reserved
- Your passenger took time off work
By Saturday morning, you're emotionally and financially invested. The weather looks marginal. But you've come this far...
This is where accidents start.
PlaneWX Moves the Decision Earlier
We synthesize every publicly available weather source—TAFs, METARs, GFS, NBM, AFDs, prog charts—using AI to paint a big picture starting up to 14 days out.
Not a data dump. A decision.
"Looking promising, but a frontal system may impact Saturday"
"Saturday morning is trending toward IFR. Consider Friday evening or Sunday"
"Saturday is now a confirmed no-go. Your alternate: Sunday 10am looks VFR"
"GO. Conditions meet all your minimums."
How PlaneWX Helps You
Advanced Notice
The earlier you know, the easier it is to adjust. When you discover Saturday is no-go on Tuesday, you have options. By the time you're standing on the ramp, keys in hand, the decision should already be made.
Stakeholders in the Loop
Get-there-itis doesn't just come from you. It comes from family, passengers, and clients. PlaneWX's Trip Watchers feature brings them into the weather conversation early, reducing pressure before you even get to the airport.
Personal Minimums as Non-Negotiables
Other tools show you the weather and let you rationalize. PlaneWX enforces what you decided when you were calm and clear-headed. Your minimums. Your standards. No negotiation.
Alternatives, Not Just "No"
When your planned departure time doesn't work, PlaneWX suggests alternatives. "Saturday 8am is marginal, but Saturday 2pm looks VFR." We help you find when you CAN go.
Important
- • PlaneWX provides weather information from federal regulatory agencies to help pilots meet the requirements of 14 CFR §91.103
- • The WX Score and AI analysis are decision-support tools
- • The pilot in command always makes the final go/no-go decision
PlaneWX is a planning and decision-support tool that works alongside your existing workflow.
Our Philosophy
"PlaneWX doesn't tell you what to do. It tells you what you already decided—before the pressure set in."
We believe the hardest part of flying isn't handling the airplane—it's making the decision to go at all. PlaneWX helps you make that decision days earlier, when it's easier to say no, when alternatives are still available, and when your family understands why.
Built by Pilots, for Pilots
PlaneWX was created by pilots who've felt the pressure, made the calls, and learned from the scares. We're building the tool we wish we'd had.
